Welcome!

Songtsen Gampo Buddhist Center of Cleveland was established under our Spiritual Director Tulku Pema Wangyal Rinpoche as a nonprofit organization in November, 2008. We are currently looking to rent a home for use as our Center.

Buddhist nun Ani Palmo, our resident teacher and director, is a native Clevelander who has been studying Buddhism since 1988. She has been teaching courses in Buddhism and Meditation in the Greater Cleveland area since 2003.

Our aims for the new Center are many. We will provide instruction in Buddhist meditation and philosophy in a way that is applicable to both non-Buddhists and Buddhists alike. The Center will also serve as the focal point for forming a true spiritual community where we can support one another in our practice and benefit the larger community as well.

Look forward with us to making full use of Songtsen Gampo Buddhist Center of Cleveland.

(We'll soon have a new website that reflects our new Center)

WALKING THE SPIRITUAL PATH

Once we choose a spiritual path we need to examine--with naked honesty--our approach to walking that path. "The problem is that ego can convert anything to its own use," Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche says, "even spirituality."

Join Ani Palmo for an in-depth study of the modern classic, Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism, by Chogyam Trungpa. "These incisive, compassionate teachings serve to wake us up from this trick we all play on ourselves, and to offer us a far brighter reality: the true and joyful liberation that inevitably involves letting go of the self rather than working to improve it."

INTRODUCTION TO TIBETAN BUDDHIST PRACTICE *

*(Offered on the East AND West side of town!)

"A favorite of Tibetans and recommended by the Dalai Lama, this practical guide to inner transformation introduces the fundamental spiritual practices common to all Tibetan Buddhist traditions." The Words of My Perfect Teacher, the text for this course, covers a wide range of subjects including karma, taking refuge, mandala, and how to recognize an authentic spiritual teacher.

Whether you are simply curious about the Buddhist path or are ready to begin your practice, you will benefit from Introduction to Tibetan Buddhist Practice. This is a continuing course taught in multiple installments, but participants are not obliged to commit to the entire program.

MINDFULNESS AND COMPASSION: A Silent Buddhist Retreat

Experience a week of silence as we are led by Ani Palmo through three types of meditation: Mindfulness of Breathing, Walking Meditation, and The Practice of Exchange. All three meditations can be practiced by people of any faith and are practical ways of increasing awareness, love, compassion and forgiveness in our lives.

Silence supports the deepening of our experience and relieves distractions. Speaking will be allowed during question and answer sessions and during time set aside for private interviews with Ani Palmo.

Come and take advantage of this rare opportunity to focus your mind, your heart and your life.

Schedule: In general, we will begin meditation early in the morning and the day will consist of several meditation sessions, yoga, vegetarian meals, breaks, Dharma talks, and private interviews. Detailed schedule will be posted at a later date.

Dates: Sunday June 17 through Saturday June 23, 2012

Venue: River's Edge: A Place for Reflection and Action
            (3430 Rocky River Dr, Cleveland)

PLEASE NOTE:

If you want to do this retreat, best to register ASAP. Space is very limited. I highly recommend you stay at the venue, as it will be of great help to your retreat experience. There are only 20 overnight spaces available, and River's Edge will be sending out invites to their mailing list of 20,000 people soon. Register now!
